Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard was Apple's primary operating system from its launch in 2009 until being replaced by 2011's Mac OS X 10.7 Lion.

At the time of its release, Snow Leopard wasn't considered to be a major deviation from Apple's current line-up of interfaces; however, it did mark a turn towards the company's embrace of streamlined efficiency. This version of Mac was primarily known for its slight tweaks and upgrades, particularly since it didn't change too much from its predecessor.

One of the foundations of Snow Leopard was the inclusion of QuickTime X, which was praised as a viable alternative to the versatility of VLC Player. This media processor demonstrated the glossy potential of Apple's high processing speeds and sleek visual frame-rates. Users were given way more control over the overall presentation, and upgraded folder options made it much easier to pinpoint specific files.

Another notable inclusion is a beta version of Safari 4. This updated browser serves as Snow Leopard's default for internet connections, and it was heralded at the time for its ability to compete directly with Mozilla's Firefox.

The addition of Microsoft Exchange Server Support was a clever move that increased user safety and expanded Apple's troubleshooting capacities greatly. Furthermore, this installation provided access to the whole lot of the rival tech giant's invaluable services. Essentials here include a highly organized address book that is shared across devices, a fully functional email apparatus and even iCal.

The Cocoa Desktop Window instilled an incredibly innovative platform for iOS app development. This revolutionary add-on was bolstered even further by the in-depth Contextual Menu software. At the core of Snow Leopard is a game-changing 64-bit kernel that is brilliantly merged with OpenCL and managed by the unification processes of Apple's powerful Grand Central technology. As a result, this OS was one of the first to maximize the programming output of Apple's state-of-the-art productions from the era. Dual processing reaches its apex thanks to this mainframe.

Despite containing more features than the versions that came before it, Snow Leopard somehow boasts a faster installation speed. On average, it is estimated to take only 13 minutes to get this OS running from scratch. In comparison, previous versions took an average of 15 minutes before becoming usable.

This OS has definitely earned a faithful flock of users, and its longevity is surprising by most standards in the computer industry. Overall, Snow Leopard was the champion of its time, and it still carries a cult following into the modern day!
